The Quiet Ones - John Pogue - 2014

So last night my friend and I went to see "The Quiet Ones" at the cinema, to be completely honest, I was a little disappointed. I didn't get very much from it.. As it was from the makers of "The Women In Black" ,which is a 12 rating (very scary! yikes!) and by coincidence, I had recently purchased the DVD and watched for the first time. I thought that "The Women In Black" was actually very good, very very jumpy and tense, it actually had me looking away at some points, for someone like me who loves horror that was quite an achievement. In "The Quiet Ones", although there was lots of jump scares, very similar to "The Women In Black" , I think there was actually more than one occasion when I jumped out my seat and almost knocked the women next to me's ice-cream out of her hand (eek). Although I just couldn't get into the story for some reason. Though I did enjoy Sam Claflins performance (because I mean who doesnt?) and thought he done a very good job. I recognised him almost immediately as being Finnick Odair from district 4 in the second hunger games film "Catching Fire". Despite the change of hair colour and obvious costume difference.
I found that there was no clear narrative and some parts just didn't quite make perfect sense. I won't explain too much as that may be classified as a spoiler, but it did confuse a little. It actually reminded me particularly of the first "The Haunting in Connecticut" film, with the idea of ectoplasm etc. (Trying not to give away much). I also felt that the ending was particularly rushed and because they had dragged the film on for so long, they thought they would need to end it and so the last half an hour or so there is a lot happening.
Almost 24 hours later, I am still trying to figure out the meaning behind the title of the film. Although a character actually says at one point, "The Quiet Ones", but for some strange reason I can't take anything from it.
Although it had faults, I adored the 70's vibe it had going on, with the rock music, the flared trousers and heavy side-burns! I also liked the idea of portraying a possible supernatural possession as a mental illness, like Jane in the film, being transferred from hospital to hospital, yet they still could not find a way to help her get better. The professor did not open his mind to different reasons and this prevented Jane from recovering and digging deep to find the real cause of the problem.
I mean overall, if you're looking for a good scare, I would definitely say to go for it. But if you're very particular about your choice of films to watch, I wouldn't recommend.

6/10

☠ ☯ Violet Harmon meets Zoe Benson ☯ ☠

Recently I re-watched the first season of American Horror Story, I was inspired by Taissa Farmigas character, Violet Harmon and her amazing outfits throughout the entire series to create this look. The grungy, baggy and dull combined with the smart, pristine, modern witch esk costumes worn by Taissa's other character, Zoe Benson, in Season 3 of the television series, creates this dark, yet light and summery, combination.

1. H&M - Lace Trimmed Top - £6.99
I felt that putting this vest underneath the long dress achieves the exact look. Violet is never seen wearing anything particularly low cut or revealing much of her neck area, so putting this underneath allows the dress to be not too revealing, which it already isnt, and also gives this grungy layered clothing effect.

2. New Look - Tall Burgundy Plain Leggings - £7.99
The leggings don't necessarily need to be tall, but the colour I found from this shop was in the tall section but  of course that's okay if they're not. Also i guess the leggings aren't mandatory but i feel like even with the long dress on, Violet/Zoe would have worn them underneath, not being completely comfortable with having bare legs underneath and or perhaps just comfort? who knows! But I thought it went particularly well and the colour fits in.

3. Topshop - Macrame Back Maxi Dress - £36.00
Wow this long black maxi dress is perfect for this particular look. The length and the lack of colour is what makes it so Coven (Season 3). Its strange how a television series can adopt a particular fashion style but this dress is the perfect match. It also fits in with my Violet Harmon inspired outfit, because it's also very casual and I love that, it just means it can be worn as a day to day dress but is smart at the same time? I'm really not sure how, but it just manages to do so!

4. New Look - Lilac Chiffon Check Shirt -£19.99
Worn open, this is very 90's. An oversized flannel type shirt is grungy and sort of reminds me of something Kurt Cobain would have worn, to an extent.
Which also kind of cool that Kurt Cobain is mentioned on more than one occasion by Tate Langdon, Violets boyfriend in the season. Who, upon thinking about it, dresses a lot like Kurt Cobain himself. As its lilac it also goes along with Violets running purple theme as she is seen almost always wearing purple, which I guess is because of her name?

5. Topshop - Clean Edge Fedora Hat - £25.00
This Violet Harmon inspired look would simply not be complete without the signature hat as Violet is seen throughout the season wearing a selection of different hats. As hats are almost part of the coven style as well, I thought this was absolutely perfect. This oversized fedora style hat reminded me of this particular scene in Coven,
All four witches are seen wearing different styles of hats. I adored it so much. Also this is good for summer, it protects your head from getting burnt from the sun, which i guess is always a plus? Always good to look stylish and be protected!

6. New Look - Wide Fit Brown Lace Up Boots - £24.99
These cute boots reminded me of Violet as she is seen wearing boots a lot in the season, which, I guess I have no explanation for this time? But they do look rather nice. Instead of black boots, I decided the brown was good for summer, and I think it works well.

7. Urban Outfitters - Leather Retro Roman Watch - £20.00
I guess there isn't much explanation over this item either except from the fact that the black & white colours look very smart, so it fits in with the Zoe Benson theme. I guess its also good to know the time (also Urban Outfitters have cool watches)

8. New Look - Black Floral Print Socks - £1.99
Once again, another item that has very little explanation besides the fact that its socks? The black floral pattern I thought gave this vintage kind of feel, I mean nobody its probably going to see them unless you were to take your shoes off, but yeah. Actually upon thinking about it you do get to see Violets socks a few times in the season, is that creepy or? WHO KNOWS!

9. H+M - 20-pack bracelet - £3.99
I thought this little set of bracelets, probably not wearing all 20 of them, but pairing a couple with the black watch, makes the whole thing a little more casual and wearable, especially as its summer because I mean who really wants to be all smart and dressed uptight in summer? NADA! But yep i do think they fit in with the hippie/grungy theme but again look smart, so it fits perfectly! They also sort of remind me of something Misty Day, actress Lily Rabe's character in Coven. Hmm maybe?

10. Urban Outfitters - Silver Band Multi Ring Pack - £12.00
And finally, last but certainly not least, to complete the look we have these cute silver rings from Urban Outfitters. I absolutely adore midi rings, and worn with the correct outfit they look absolutely amazing! This piece of jewellery, again is sort of hippy style but smart at the same time. As this is a multi pack of rings, you are able to try out different styles and combinations to figure out what goes the best!

Woah, you made it to the end of my blog post. Thank you very much, for taking the time to read this and I hope you enjoyed! :)
